The song that changed my mindset regarding e-commerce

For a decade my company has been selling products in tens of different categories. Gained experiences for how to sell products from e-commerce platforms effectively and profitably and make sustainable development.

We are waiting amazon.com.tr features will be acceptable by everyone in our region. Because as a developing country residents new services always welcoming by us like Amazon Prime for ‘’free’’ shipping when it is valid for all products.

But this time I just realized that this gigantic company will kill all SME’s profits and turned it them into his profits. By this we able to understand;

How Jeff Bezos created his 1 trillion-dollar company.

I am the owner of 16% of this company which means I have only 160 billion dollars. Other 840 billion belong to investors of Amazon. Jeff Bezos Interview

When we asked how do they make these 1 trillion dollars the answer is easy:

Amazon changes the business traditions with FBA — Freight by Amazon, Amazon — Prime, and other breakthrough initiatives.

Actually, as the son of a watch repairman based in İstanbul, Amazon-like companies are firstly helping us to sell our products to other people which are not our customers.

Is it sustainable to make a profit while selling products in Amazon-like companies?

The answer is HUGE NO!

Using data analytics and trend functions in amazon your profitable sales are easily targeted like sharks by your competitors. While doing business in your physical hinterland it was easy and profitable. When you move it to e-commerce you have to drop the prices like the end at 1–3% of profit margins add up to your costs.

Also, your real-life customers are referencing amazon prices while they would like to buy directly from your shop. Which means amazon doing huge competition within the sellers and help his customers serving as a cheapest marketplace on earth.

There is no or very poor chance to create the same ecosystem to crack this monopoly e-commerce ecosystem. How I can serve with free shipping, millions of dollars advertisement budget and millions of square meter warehouses. This is an utopia for SMEs.

At the end of this story, amazon like companies are making commissions and earning money from our sales. Actually these commissions are paid by customers to find the cheapest products. This commission in the wider perspective the profit margin of SMEs. From this point of view millions of SME’s all around the globe serving as slavers to Amazon customers.

I don’t exactly know how many people are an investor of 840 billion dollar wealth of amazon but knowing that that money comes from millions of SME companies family members earnings.

When you are listening this song, it will become all day repeating melody with its sacrificing of our budget. That is the reason Jeff comes and conquers our (SME) family business earnings and returns it to his pocket. When we compare how many people win and how million of families loose it is like a drop in the ocean.
